This article will go over rank slicer filter. Let’s look at it together!
The rank slicer filter is an advanced version of the slicer filter. The rank slicer filter has an additional data slot as such you can order values inside the filter based on a measure of your choice.
The rank bar can also be used as a target tracker for each value - so you have a clear view of how you are doing compared to your set goals.
The rank slicer filter can be found underneath the ‘Filters’ section. You can add it to the editor by clicking on it or by drag and drop. There are two data slots to add data to - ‘Dimension’ and ‘Measure’.
Columns with any data type will work for this slot.
Once added, each value will appear with a rank bar below it. The chart will default to the Count Rows aggregation on the dimension if no measure is assigned.
Columns with data type ‘numeric’ or ‘currency’ are a perfect fit for this slot.
The measure slot defines the numeric value of a dimension. As such rank bars with higher value appear on top. Different aggregations can be set in order to be able to execute different calculations, e.g. the average.
In case you have a long list of values enabling Search option would be handy.
Also Multiselect is available, so you can choose several values as a filter. When enabled, an extra option pops-up - 'Filter with Apply button'. Setting it on allows you to toggle between reactively applying filtering immediately after selecting each item and applying filtering once after selecting all needed options. Turning on this option will reduce queries number without a need to reload linked widgets on each selection.
Show ‘select all’ option will allow you to make an action to all the values at ones - like resetting the filter.
Display value will make it easier to read your rank slicer filter!
If you want to make your rank slicer filter more sophisticated - Display as buttons would help change the look and feel. Feel free to play with color too!
Order basically does what is says - allows you to decide the data order - ascending or descending.
And Measure axis range allows you to modify the range. Go for the manual option to set minimum & maximum value of your choice.
With adapting layout you can make it look like bars.
